I plan to buy a lot of applicances from Harvey Norman on my AMEX in the next few weeks.

In response to the article I agree with the points you’ve made Dale. There are a small handful of businesses that accept AMEX in my capital city yet they add a surcharge to the total.

I’ve queried why other businesses don’t accept AMEX and their response has been mainly the following:

-the higher fees,
-not many customers carry AMEX so it’s no big deal,
-they have to wait a month until they get the money from AMEX.

Needless to say it’s annoying and leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.

Now if you can only convince Jetstar to get rid of their crazy $8.50 surcharge x 2 for return flights I will love you forever! Haha

Just watched this video and it’s so true. I get annoyed with businesses that don’t offer card facilities. I almost got caught out the other day but luckily I had enough cash in my purse. I’ve walked away from businesses as I never used to carry much cash at all. This has changed for me a bit but it’s still frustrating. Absorb the costs and see what happens to your business. If it doesn’t work then it can be changed. Better to try than not at all. I like using PayPal too as it has the added security features. Too many people don’t look at the big picture.

People want an experience when they are out whether it be shopping or eating. This is all emotional people will spend more when they are happy and comfortable. If you don’t take cards it suddenly becomes a more logical experience and that means people spend less because they are too busy worrying whether they have enough money.

Great to see a real life example of a person that specifically shops around so they can spend money with a business that accepts American Express. Thanks Kevin for sharing. Appreciate your views and the feedback. Dale
