Sue Whyte was born in Melbourne in 1953. Her earliest childhood memories were of her grandmother sewing the family’s clothes on her antique Singer sewing machine. It ignited in Sue a love of fabrics, colour and fashion which eventually led her to Flinders Lane in Melbourne, the hub of Australian fashion in the 1970s.

Sue’s career spanned all aspects of the fashion industry from design and manufacturing, to licensing and importing. During the 1980s she introduced the children’s fashion label, Hangabouts, into Australia. It embraced the style and presentation of an adult fashion brand for the under tens; it was an instant success and instrumental in revolutionising children’s fashion. At the same time, Sue was also importing ladies fashion labels from the US and Norway.

By the mid 1990s, Sue had sold the fashion labels and married her soul mate David – she was ready for a new challenge. She identified an untapped niche in the market for a brand of lingerie in extended sizes that could be purchased in a comfortable setting. She had herself long found it difficult to source fashionable lingerie in larger cup sizes and had heard many horror stories from other women about ill-fitting bras and awkward underwear shopping experiences.

In 1995 Sue launched Intimo with just five staff and a small collection of imported lingerie, available in only two colours. But with a dedication to personalised service, product innovation, exclusivity and the genuine opportunity for women to build a successful Intimo consultancy, the company grew rapidly.

Intimo is today a multi-million dollar company with 50 staff, more than 1,000 consultants, and one of the most comprehensive ranges of lingerie available under one brand in Australia and New Zealand.
