Bits and Pieces II-
1.1 Getting Close
Students estimate sums of fractions and decimals to determine if each sum is nearest 0, 1, 2, or 3.
1.2 Estimating Sums
Students learn estimation strategies in contextual situations and consider whether they need an overestimate or an underestimate.
2.1 Land Sections: Writing Addition and Subtraction Sentences
Students use an area model in the context of buying and selling land to reason about how to add and subtract fractions.
2.2 Visiting the Spice Shop: Using Addition and Subtraction
Students continue to work on addition and subtraction, using spice recipes as a context.
HUMANITIES
Writing and Social Studies– Informational Research Papers
Assigned Topics: Sugar Act, Stamp Act, Quartering Act, The Sons of Liberty, Boston Massacre, Boston Tea Party, and The Shot Heard ‘Round the World.

Writing (optional):

  • Newspaper contributions are accepted weekly.  Make sure your final copy has been edited by a second person, saved to your google.docs account, and sent via email to your student editor.  Please send written text only to student editors. If you need to add a picture I (Mr. Thompson) can help you with that.
  • Present a research report during our morning chautauqua.  You can make a slide show using google.docs.
  • Create a file on google.docs and add your work to your writing folder titled “Writing 2009-2010”
