Mr. Thompson’s 5th grade class has recently completed a mandala art
project. Their beautiful work is now on display at the Open Space Cafe
(2815 SE Holgate Blvd, formerly The Funky Door, www.openspacecafe.com)

Reading, Math, Science, and Social Studies
Humanities-
Writing-students will write a persuasive letter as a Patriot or Loyalist using the information from recently completed research papers.
Socratic Seminar– students will examine discuss the archetype unintended consequences after watching a short video from Food Inc.
Science-
Engineering- hands on activities and challenges
Japanese-
Group Presentations- students will prepare for and present a “real life” situation in Japanese.

Homework
OAKS Testing- Practice Tests (optional)
Spelling packet- due Thursday April 15
Writing- Work on persuasive letter
Ongoing writing opportunities (optional):

  • Newspaper contributions are accepted weekly.  Make sure your final copy has been edited by a second person, saved to your google.docs account, and sent via email to your student editor.  Please send written text only to student editors. If you need to add a picture I, Mr. Thompson, can help you with that.
  • Present a research report during our morning chautauqua.  You can make a slide show using google.docs.
  • Create a file on google.docs and add your work to your writing folder titled “Writing 2009-2010″
