What is one of the best platforms right now to grow your business?
I would say it has to be Facebook, and that’s because it is the largest and most popular website in the world with over 2 billion active users across the globe. Imagine the many possibilities if you could capture even just a small percentage of this number?
At some point, you’re going to need to learn how to market your business using Facebook Ads. In this video, I won’t deep dive into how to setup and run Facebook ads. Instead, what I’m going to do is teach you how to design a Facebook ad in under 3 minutes.
Powerful Advertising Platform
Before we get started, I’ve got some good news and bad news. The bad news is the free days of Facebook is over. But the good news is that there are still so many great strategies that you can use if you just learn to understand that Facebook is a very powerful advertising platform.
Since the majority of people spend multiple hours on Facebook per day, Facebook ads will help you improve your reach and target your exact audience. You can actually advertise to people based on a specific category like age, or behavior, and location. If you know who your audience truly is then Facebook is the best place to engage them.
Online Design Tool
To get started on Facebook ads, you need to design an image ad and you can actually do this in under 3 minutes. It’s that easy especially if you use this tool that I use, too. It’s pretty cool so you should check it out.
The tool I recommend is called canva and you can find it on canva.com. Use your Facebook or Google login to create an account if you don’t have one yet. Otherwise, you can make an account with a username and password.
Once you’re logged in, you’ll see a button named ‘create a design’. Click on it and you’ll see hundreds of different designs for all sorts of different things like social media posts, blogging, marketing materials and more. But skip these and go right down to the bottom where you’ll see Facebook ad and click on it.
Facebook Ad Creation
After the page loads, you’ll see on the left hand side that there’s literally hundreds of different Facebook ads that you can choose from. You can also customize these depending on the type of business you have.
Let’s try designing an ad for one of my friends who has a company that builds websites and I’ll walk you through the process. Go to uploads and find an image. Once it has been uploaded, drag the image into the actual ad. You can remove the filter that’s already there by going back to normal.
The next thing is to make sure the person in the image is in the right position. In this case, try moving her to the right hand side so that there’s enough space on the left hand side for your text. If you’ve kept a copy of your text on another document, what you can do is double click to cut and paste in the words.
Facebook Ad Reminders
Now we’re almost done with the Facebook ad design but there are a few things you need to remember. Facebook ads have a limit and it is that text can’t take up more than 20% of the ad. So after cutting and pasting your text, you need to adjust the size to make it a lot smaller.
Check the color of the text and make sure it has a good contrast with the background color. You can also opt to darken the color if you think that would provide a much better contrast. Put the logo into the ad on top of the text already there. But again you need to resize it since no more than 20% should be text.
Click on ‘download’ and you’re basically done. You’ll see Canva saving your Facebook ad and it’s in the right dimensions, has an eye grabbing image and text that is no more than 20% of the size of the ad.
