Are you losing website visitors due to speed and responsiveness? Then this tool is perfect for you.
So watch this quick video below and learn what you need to know to ensure your website is doing what it’s supposed to do and more importantly for you to point out to your web developer what needs to be changed to improve it!
Does Your Website Work on All Different Devices?
Let’s get into it right now. Now if you have a website, it’s very important this year and especially in the future, to make sure that your website works on all different devices and especially mobile devices. There was once a time whereby mobile web traffic was only a very small percentage. Now it’s quickly becoming the majority and there are more people searching for things on their mobile phones and tablets than what they are on regular desktop computers.
Make your Website “Responsive”
It’s essential now that your website is what we call responsive. That means it works on all devices and especially on mobile devices. Now, how do you know if your website is mobile compliant? Well thankfully, Google has a test that they have created and all you’ve got to do is cut and paste in your URL and it will tell you whether your website is mobile friendly in Google’s eyes. Google is who you really need to impress if you want your website to rank well within the search engines and Google has openly said that this is now part of their algorithm.
Let Google’s Mobile Test Analyze Your Website
If you want to continue to rank well within the search engines, then you need to make sure that your website passes the mobile compliant test. You can go to this URL to check if your website is responsive, all you do is type in your website address and click “analyze”.
Then after that, what will happen, it will take a few seconds. It actually goes through a quick scan of your website and then it comes back with a yes or a no, and tells you if your website is mobile compliant. You can see here, this is one of my websites 52ways.com. Thankfully that passes the test. It says “Awesome, this page is mobile friendly”, which is great and talks about the benefits of making sure that your website is mobile friendly as well. It also shows you what your website looks like on different mobile devices, which is really important.
Slow Loading Time Means Lower Rankings Within Search Engines
Now because we’re talking about Google Tests, there’s another test that you should do. We could do it at the same time if you like and this is a Google Speed test. Another factor that goes into Google’s search algorithm is how fast your website loads. Now if your website takes a long time to load, that’s obviously annoying for people, so therefore it’s annoying to Google. Google frowns upon websites that take a long time to load and you’ll get fewer rankings within the search engines.
Google Speed Test: Analyze How Your Website Is Performing from a Speed Point of View
You want to make sure your website loads nice and quick. Now what you need to do is to click here for Google Speed test. After you get to the page, cut and paste your website in. You click on “Analyze” and then what it does this time is it tells you a number out of a hundred in terms of how your website is performing from a speed point of view.
Make Your Website Speed Faster
As you can see here, I’m in the orange zone which means not bad but not great either. I’ve got a bit of work to do. When I did this screenshot it was 78 out 100 in terms of the speed of my website loading. Now what’s really cool is it goes further than just giving you a number, it actually tells you one of the reasons why your website is running slow. It’s got a whole bunch of different suggestions as you scroll down about the things that you can do to fix it. Now if you’re a technical person, then you should be able to read these instructions and then literally go and implement them yourself.
If not, then you can take this test and you can send it to your website developer and you can say, “Hey can you please fix these things? Here are all the suggestions.” Just follow them and then you can put a note in your diary to maybe do another test for yourself in a week’s time or two weeks time and hopefully your scores have gone up.
Google Speed Test Also Accessible on Mobile
You can do the Google Speed Test across desktop and also for mobile which is very interesting. As you could see, when I did this a while ago, we’ve improved since then but a little while ago, I was running quite well on a desktop but actually very poorly on a mobile device. We’ve taken some steps to fix that and we are improving. That’s obviously going to have an effect which is how this website ranks within the search engines and again, with suggestions on how to fix that specifically from a mobile point of view.
