The top tip I would say is just get started and use your phone. Don’t worry about, “Oh, I don’t have a mic or lights. I don’t know how to do other things.” Just grab your phone, put it in front of you and you can just even hold it if you don’t have a tripod. Just get started.
If you do have a little bit of money to spend, you can just get yourself a tiny tripod. This one has arms and legs so I can actually put microphones and lights on as well. But you can get simple tripods online as well.
Just make sure that your phone is stable. If you have a window, then face the window as Dale said yesterday. I’m looking at all you guys in gallery view now and this is like the best-framed Zoom conference that I’ve actually been on because Dale’s already said, use the rule of thirds. So imagine a Noughts and Crosses board across your screen and then put your eyes and your head on the top on this line here. That just makes you look more professional and it’s framed better as well. You can do the same thing when you’re actually on your phone.
I’m very conscious that we only have three minutes before we’re going to get kicked out of the room. I’m going to give you a website called ‘Just Shot On My Phone.’ I totally did that wrong. www.justshotonmyphone.com. I should buy the other domain as well.
But in that website, I actually go through how to set up your gear and the different types of microphones. You’ve got lapel microphones, you’ve got shotgun microphones. There are different types which you can have and also the different types of lights you can have. This is a little LED light that I carry around with me. Other things like the gimbal which will make your videos look really smooth. Take what Amanda’s taught you and put it together and just experiment really
